今回は2月3日日程立命館大学の大問4で出題された、英文法・語法に関する空所補充問題を見ていくことにしよう。どれも基本的な問題であるために、完答を目指したいところである。
大問4 次の(1)～(8)それぞれの文を完成させるのに、下線部の語法として最も適当なもの
を①～④から1つ選び、その番号を解答欄にマークしなさい。

[解法のポイント]
(1) 空欄の後ろにthanがあるので、would rather A than B 「BというよりもむしろA」。
(2) [熟語] in the direction of A 「Aの方向」(※ 方角・方向は「ワクの中」→ inを用いる)
(3) 付帯状況のwith＋O＋C「OをCの状態で」→ ④が正解。
(4) [比較表現] the＋比較級＋of the two「2つの中で(比較級)の方」→ 本問では、twoがpairになっているが、この比較表現を用いていることから、③が正解となる。
(5) 本文の和訳を考えると、「宿題が終わったら、テレビを見ることが出来ます」となり、「時・条件を表す副詞節内は未来(完了)形のことも現在(完了)形」なので、②が正解。
(6) 文意から「危険があるだけれども」という意味より、④が正解。(※ despiteは前置詞)
(7) 文意から「今晩ここにいる人は( )でも大統領に会う機会がある。」という意味になるので、空欄には「誰でも」という意味が適切なので、④が正解である。
(8) [文構造] [( ) those who](S) support(V) ～ → 空所には形容詞を入れる必要がある。さらに、動詞が単数形でないので、everyやeach ofは不適であり、allが正解。
