今回は中央大学の統一日程を見ていくことにする。4択の空所補充問題であるが、一文が長いことや難しい語彙に関する問題もある一方で、基本的なイディオムや文法事項に関する問題があるので、落としていけない問題と捨て問がある程度分かりやすい出題と言える。合格するためには、10/15は取りたいところである。

[解法のポイント]
(1) 空欄直前にtoo long「とても長い間」(longは名詞用法)という慣用表現である。また、take A for granted 「Aを当然のことだと思う」という形で用いられ、「A(目的語)がないこと・precious commodity(貴重な商品)を修飾しており受動関係」という2点の理由から、受動関係にするべきことであることから、④が正解となる。
(2) 日本語訳を考えると、「この古典的な映画は、一人の若者と彼の友人がさまざまな困難を経験するときの冒険を( 空欄 )」という意味から、project「計画する・見積もり」は文意NGになる。よって、follow「続く・追っている」という意味の③が正解である。
(3) 副詞の語彙に関する問題であり、「① 著しく ② はっきりと ③ 独立して ④ 具体的に」という意味となる。「テムズ川の南を勧めて、具体的には(特に)公園」であるという文意から、④ specificallyが適切であることから解くことができる、
(4) カンマとカンマで挟まれている内容を除いた部分を和訳すると、「会社の創設者が実際にすべての優れた製品を発明したと信じている人の数に驚かれることでしょう。」となり、「すべての証拠( 空欄 )」となるので、「証拠があるのに驚いた」ということは、逆説内容が空欄に入ることから、despite「～あるにも関わらず」が正解となる。
(5) 文意や消去法からacceptを選ぶことが出来ると思うが、「(クレジットカードなどを)受け入れる」などの商業の面でも使えることを覚えておきたい。→ ①が正解。
(6) application for A 「Aの申込」という表現で、前置詞のforを選ぶと、「あなたの携帯電話の申込をダウンロードする」という意味になることからNGである。よって、download A to B「AをBにダウンロードする」という表現から、②が正解となる。
(7) 空欄前後を見ると、受動関係になることが分かるので、「ある両親は学費が高いことから、子どもたちに私立学校に行かせることを(空欄)」という意味から、put off 「延期する・意欲をなくさせる」という意味があることから、④が正解となる。
(8) 空欄直前の和訳を考えると、「これらの環境に住むことに慣れている」という意味になるので、be used to 動名詞「～することに慣れている」という表現から、③が正解。
(9) 語彙力に関する問題で消去法の② doctrine「教義」が正解となる。他の選択肢は、「① 落胆 ② 教義 ③ デモ・表明・証明 ④ 原動力」という意味になる。
(10) [熟語] in the corner of A 「Aの隅で」→ ①が正解。
(11) 空欄直前に着目すると、plenty of A 「多くのA」を思い浮かべるが、Aの部分がadventuresと複数形になっているのに、動詞が単数形であるのでNGとなる。plentyを名詞用法で「多量・多数」という意味を考えると、「冒険に対しての」という意味になればいいことから、前置詞forが正解となる。→ ①が正解。
(12)「25歳の年齢で」と1点を表す前置詞であることから、atが正解となる。→ ③
(13) 空欄の前後を見れば「短時間で」という意味になることが分かり、「1時間以内」でという意味になることから、2重前置詞の表現であるin under an hourが正解となる。なお、lessは比較対象がないためNGである。→ ④が正解。
(14) 空欄に入る品詞を考えると、分詞構文または不定詞を疑うことになる。不定詞を選ぶと、「彼女が昇進して昇給することを納得させるために、ルーシーは居間に高価な革のソファを購入しました。」という意味になり、因果関係がつながらない。よって、分詞構文を疑い、convince＋O＋that節「Oに～を納得させる」となり、Oがないことから、受動関係の③が正解である。
(15) 文意から考えると、「同社は黒字のままだったが、昨年40人の労働者が失業した工場でのさらなる人員削減を[ 空欄 ]を拒否したと述べた。」となり、選択肢の中で最も意味があるのは、rule out A 「Aを除外する」が正解である。→ ②
