今回は日本大学の経済学部で出題された並び替え問題を見ていくことにしよう。(1)と(5)は少し難易度が高いように思えるが、(1)はandとのつながり、(5)は消去法でinの位置を決めることが出来れば、正解することができるだろう。このようなことも考慮に入れると、合格には4/5は取りたい問題である。
大問3 次の[ 17 ]～[ 22 ]の英訳文を完成させるように、( )内の①～⑦を並び替え、その7つの中で5番目に来る語句の番号を選びなさい。なお、文頭に来る語も小文字で表記してある。
(1) スーザンは気難しそうに見えるが本当は新設で、仲良くやっていくのは難しくない。

[解法のポイント]
(1) 選択肢からget along with A「Aと上手くやる」という熟語に気付き、andは等位接続詞であることから、文構造上同じものを結ぶことから、kindとdifficultを結ぶ。残った選択肢から不定詞の形容詞的用法になることが分かり、解答を得ることができる。
(2) ① cure A of B 「AのBを治療する」(熟語)・② in a(the) long run 「長い目で見れば」
(3) 選択肢からno matter how＋形容詞を組み立てることが出来れば、解答を得られる。
(4) ①「such＋a＋(形容詞(副詞))＋名詞」の語順 → such a lovely morning
② It is 強調語句 that S V～. [不完全文になることが多い] → that I ate
(5) 選択肢からso as to 動詞の原形「～するために」、文意を考慮に入れながら並び替えを行うと、「windows so as to let fresh (air)」となる。選択肢のin[前置詞]が残ってしまうが、名詞の前に置く必要があり、in fresh airと置くしかない。(※ let in「～を入れる」という熟語があるが、おそらく受験生は知らないだろうが、答えを出すことは出来る。)
